What Is Hotel Security

Hotel security is the protection of a hotel’s guests, staff, property and reputation by trained, licensed officers. In practice it covers the reception and lobby, access control to rooms and floors, patrols of public areas, and a calm, visible presence that reassures guests without intruding on their stay.

A hotel is a difficult environment to secure. It is open to the public, busy at all hours, and full of people who do not know each other. The security has to be firm enough to stop a problem and discreet enough that a paying guest never feels policed. That balance is the whole job, and it is not something an untrained guard can improvise.

Hotel Security Services in London

Every hotel is different. A boutique townhouse and a 400-room city-centre hotel face different risks, keep different hours, and need different cover. That is why we do not sell a single “hotel package”. We look at your property, your guests and your quiet hours, then match the officers, the skills and the hours to what your hotel actually needs. Below are the services London hotels ask us for most — on their own, or combined into a single team that covers the whole building around the clock.

Hotel Security Guards

Licensed, uniformed officers stationed in your hotel — at reception, in the lobby, on patrol or on the door. A visible, professional presence that reassures guests and deters trouble before it starts.

Front Desk & Reception Security

Officers who work alongside your reception team, watching the lobby and entrance and stepping in the moment a situation needs handling — without disturbing the guests around it.

Concierge Security

Officers trained to combine security with guest service: the calm, well-presented face at the door who protects the hotel and welcomes the guest at the same time.

Access Control

Control of who reaches your guest floors, lifts, car park and back-of-house areas. Only guests and authorised staff get through, and every access point is watched.

Night Security & Patrols

Cover through the night, when a hotel is most exposed — patrolling corridors, public areas and car parks, and handling anything that happens while your guests sleep.

Event & Function Security

Weddings, conferences and private functions — officers who manage entry, guest lists and crowds so your event runs smoothly and your other guests are undisturbed.

Why Hotels Need Security

A hotel sells two things above all: comfort and safety. Both are fragile. A single incident in the lobby, one non-resident on a guest floor, or one review describing a frightening night can undo years of reputation. These are the risks hotels bring us in to manage — and why security is not an overhead but protection for the business itself.

Why Hotels Need Security
What Our Hotel Security Officers Do

What Our Hotel Security Officers Do

A hotel officer does several jobs in one shift, and does them without your guests ever feeling watched. Here is what one of our officers is actually doing while they are on your site.

What Our Officers Carry

Equipment does not replace judgement, but it settles arguments. Every officer in your hotel can record what happened, prove where they patrolled, and reach the team instantly.

Why Hotels Choose Security Firms London

SIA Approved Contractor

We hold ACS status for Security Guarding, Door Supervision, Key Holding and Public Space CCTV — a voluntary standard the SIA re-audits every year. Most hotel security suppliers do not hold it.

Trained for Hospitality

Our officers are chosen for hotels, not just guarding. They combine security with guest service, so they protect the hotel without ever making it feel policed.

Experienced in London Hotels

We already protect well-known London hotels and have done since 2004. We know how hotels run at 2pm and at 2am, because we are in them at both.

Vetted to BS 7858

Every officer is DBS checked and screened to the British Standard before their first shift — identity, right to work, employment history and more.

One Accountable Contact

A direct line to someone who knows your hotel, not a switchboard and a ticket number — 24 hours a day.

Real Prices, Not “Call for a Quote”

You get a figure, what it covers, and what would change it — no vague ranges. Our hotel security starts from £19 per hour per officer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Hotel security protects a hotel’s guests, staff and property. Officers cover reception and the lobby, control access to guest floors and back-of-house areas, patrol public areas, handle difficult or intoxicated guests, and respond to incidents from disputes to fire alarms — while keeping a calm presence guests barely notice.

Hotel security is usually charged at an hourly rate per officer, depending on the cover, the hours and the number of officers. Overnight and event cover cost more; ongoing contracts are cheaper per hour than one-off bookings. Our hotel security starts from £19 per hour per officer.

Yes. Anyone providing security guarding in a UK hotel must hold a valid SIA licence, and it is a criminal offence to work without one. Door and event work needs a Door Supervision licence. Every officer we supply is licensed, and you can verify any of them on the SIA public register.

They hold different SIA licences. A security guard covers general hotel guarding — reception, patrols, access control. A door supervisor is trained for licensed and event settings where alcohol, entry control and crowds are involved, such as a hotel bar or function. Many hotels need both.

Yes, and it works best when they do. Our officers are trained in guest service as well as security, so they support your front-of-house team rather than sitting apart from it. To a guest, they read as part of the hotel, not as a checkpoint.

In an emergency, we can have officers on site within 60 minutes. For planned cover, we agree a start date with you in advance. We provide 24/7 cover, so we can respond to incidents at any hour, including nights, weekends and bank holidays.
