What Is Student Accommodation Security?
Student accommodation security is the protection of student residences — university halls, private purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA), and shared student housing — by trained, SIA-licensed officers.
It covers who is allowed into the building, what happens in the communal areas and at night, and how staff respond when a resident is in trouble. The residents are young, often living away from home for the first time, and the buildings are busy and social — so the job is as much about support and calm presence as it is about stopping intruders.
In practice it means access and visitor control at the entrance, patrols of corridors and shared spaces, cover through the evening and night when most issues arise, and officers trained to handle everything from a locked-out student to a genuine welfare concern.
